St. George’s, Grenada; February 16, 2023: The Republic Bank Inter Secondary Schools Athletic Championship 2023 has been launched. For the second year running, Republic Bank will assume title sponsorship for Grenada’s premier track and field meet.
The games will return to three days, and will be staged from March 28th – 30th. A press conference to announce the launch was held earlier this week at Olympic House, Morne Rouge. Various stakeholders attended, including Hon. Ron Redhead, Minister of State with responsibility for Youth, Sports & Culture, officials from the Grenada Association of Principals of Secondary Schools (GAPSS), the Grenada Athletics Association and a representative from the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF).
A key feature outlined by GAPSS Chairman, Mr. Dominic Jeremiah, is the return of INTERCOL to three days; this, to facilitate additional events and also to allow the athletes sufficient time to recover physically. Meet Director, Johnell Mitchell announced the inclusion of the heptathlon to the list of events for females, and the octathlon to the male lineup, along with plans to reintroduce hurdles in 2024.
In delivering the title sponsor’s remarks, Managing Director, Mrs. Naomi De Allie, reaffirmed Republic Bank’s commitment to the development of our youth, through Sports. She said: “Support for this event is made possible under our social investment programme, the “Power to Make A Difference”. Each athlete has the power and the potential to succeed, both academically and in the sporting arena. Being a socially responsible corporate citizen, we know all too well, the importance of raising well-rounded individuals; and events like INTERCOL provide the ideal avenue for young people to not only excel in the field of athletics, but to hone their softer skills like discipline, grit, determination and team work.”
ASP Trevor Rodney outlined a number of measures to be taken by the RGPF to safeguard students and patrons at the games.
The Bank expressed its appreciation to the various stakeholders, co-sponsors and volunteers for their dedication to ensuring our aspiring athletes are given this developmental opportunity, and wished all competitors an enjoyable, memorable Republic Bank INTERCOL 2023.
