Republic Bank Staff Lend A Hand At Gouyave Soup Kitchen

St. George's, Grenada; September 29, 2026: Sometimes, making a difference starts with simply lending a hand.

Nine Republic Bank employees from the Marketing & Communications and Head Office Administration Units put this into action on Friday, September 25, when they volunteered at the St. Peter’s R.C. Church Soup Kitchen Ministry in Gouyave, St. John.

The team rolled up their sleeves to sponsor and serve meals to persons who access the Soup Kitchen, which operates three days each week and provides approximately 40 persons with hot, nutritious meals each day it operates. In addition to volunteering their time, Republic Bank donated a 17kg Frigidaire washing machine to the Ministry. The appliance will be used to wash dish cloths and other fabrics required for the preparation and serving of meals, providing practical support to the Soup Kitchen as it continues its work.

For the Republic Bank volunteers, the experience was more than just a day of service. It was an opportunity to work alongside the dedicated members of the Soup Kitchen Ministry and witness first-hand the care and commitment that go into providing meals and support to persons in the Gouyave community.

Ms. Mavis Mc Burnie, General Manager, Operations at Republic Bank, said, “We are pleased to support the St. Peter’s R.C. Church Soup Kitchen Ministry, both through the donation of the washing machine and by having our staff volunteer their time to assist with the serving of meals. We recognize the valuable work being done by the Ministry and are happy to contribute in a practical way to its continued efforts to provide nutritious meals and care to persons in need.”

Fr. Michael Opoku, Parish Priest of St. Peter’s R.C. Church, expressed appreciation to Republic Bank for its support and for the contribution of its staff. He thanked the Bank for not only providing the washing machine, which will assist with the day-to-day operations of the Soup Kitchen, but also for taking the time to volunteer alongside the Ministry’s team in serving the community.

The initiative forms part of Republic Bank’s commitment to making a positive difference in the communities it serves. Through its Power to Make a Difference programme, the Bank continues to support initiatives that help to strengthen communities and improve the lives of individuals and families.
