St. George’s, Grenada; October 20, 2020: Republic Bank has once again stepped up to assist the Dorothy Hopkin Centre for the Disabled, with a much needed plumbing infrastructure upgrade valued at $42,000.00 (Forty Two Thousand Dollars). The project includes the installation of new surface pipes to bypass leaking pipes in the foundation, which was a major problem that plagued the institution for the last few years. This new main connects bathrooms, laundry rooms, kitchen, water tanks and solar water heater systems. Additional work included plastering, re-tiling, installation of new mixers as well as the installation of a new roof drain and repairs to damaged columns. The project also addressed some problems with the collection and disposal of water that tended to accumulate around the building during rainfall.
Ms. Stephan Andrews, Branch Manager, Grand Anse Branch, in addressing attendees at the handing over ceremony of the project, reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to continuously work together with community partners to build a successful society. Commenting on the improved facility, Manager at the Home Mrs. Trinela Frank-Purcell conveyed the immense sense of relief felt by staff. She was in high praise for the Bank and contractor, Daniel & Daniel Engineering Co. who played a pivotal role in the positive outcome of the project.
In 2008, Republic Bank under its’s social investment vehicle, The Power to Make A Difference (PMAD) programme, contributed $563,000 to build an additional wing for the Home which includes a doctor’s office, therapy room and accommodation for sixteen additional beds. Funding for this plumbing infrastructure upgrade was also made possible under our PMAD programme.
The Dorothy Hopkin Centre caters to the needs of children who are physically challenged. Republic Bank is once again proud to positively impact the communities it serves, by catering to the needs of the differently-able.
