St. George’s, Grenada; June 27, 2016: Reigning Panorama champions Republic Bank Angel Harps Steel Orchestra, has begun preparations in earnest, to defend its title on “Pantastic” Saturday, August 06, 2016.
As “Title Sponsor” for the steel band for thirty four (34) years consecutively, Republic Bank, presented band captain, Leroy “Malou” Stephens, with a financial contribution of $30,000.00 (Thirty Thousand Dollars), to assist with preparations for the upcoming carnival season, which is only six (6) weeks away.
Manager, Retail Services - St. George’s Cluster, Mrs. Garnet Ross, made the presentation on the Bank’s behalf, pledging its continued support to the development of the culture, and in particular, the youth. Angel Harps is the oldest known steel band in Grenada, with enviable achievements spanning half a century.
Preparation for Spicemas 2016 competitions, is in full swing (Wednesdays & Saturdays for the senior band, and Fridays and Saturdays for the juniors), and band captain, Leroy “Malou” Stephens, is confident about its chances of maintaining its winning legacy. Earlier this year, the band retained its Pan Expressions title, defeating seven other bands in competition. No doubt, the junior orchestra will also be looking to recapture the junior title this year as well.
Republic Bank is committed to keeping the pan culture alive in Grenada and extends best wishes to Angel Harps for a successful carnival season.
