St. George’s, Grenada - October 11, 2016: Republic Bank continues to provide support for the youth, through education. For the ninth consecutive year, the Bank has provided Grenadian nationals with opportunities to advance and develop educationally through its Bursary Programme with the University of the West Indies, Open Campus-Grenada. This programme allows persons to remain at home while pursuing a bachelor’s degree online.
This year, seventeen (17) students recently received tuition bursaries from the Bank totaling $23,075.00 for semester I of the 2016/2017 academic year. This is the first time such a large number of persons are benefitting from the programme in any given semester; signifying the growing number of nationals pursing academic advancement. General Manager – Operations at Republic Bank, Mr. Clifford Bailey made the presentation to the local head UWI Open Campus, Dr. Nicole Philip-Dowe, on behalf of the students.
The Bursary programme complements the Bank’s UWI Scholarship, which is made available each year, to assist one (1) qualified Grenadian pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree full time at any of the UWI campuses in the region. Currently, Ms. Estelle Pysadee is pursuing a double major degree in Accounting and Economics at the Cave Hill Campus, Barbados, under the Bank’s Scholarship Programme. Each year, for a maximum of three (3) years, $20,000.00 is awarded to the successful student, to assist with tuition and accommodation expenses.
Republic Bank is pleased to continue supporting the development of young people through education. Eligibility for both Scholarship and Bursary is based on academic ability and financial need.
