December 09, 2022; St. George’s, Grenada: Games fishing enthusiasts can look forward to new attractions at the Republic Bank Spice Island Billfish Tournament, come January 2023.
At a media launch held at the tournament venue Friday, December 09th, Republic Bank affirmed its title sponsorship for the 53rd grand slam event, scheduled for January 23-27, 2022. Manager, Head Office at the Bank, Mr. Kurt Mc Farlane pledged the Bank’s continued support for yet another year, commenting: “No doubt, this event continues to hold the same respect and class as all other major fishing tournaments in the region, staged with the marine and geographic ambience that a world class tournament demands.”
Chairman of the tournament committee, Mr. Nicholas George anticipates a return to participation at pre-COVID-19 levels. He reported 17 registered boats so far, a good indication that interest in 2023 will be high, given the ease in entry/exit requirements. As many as 60 boats/350 anglers are anticipated to grace our shores.
Representative from the Grenada Tourism Authority, another stakeholder in the event, Mrs. Nikoyan Roberts outlined some new features which promises our visitors added value to the product. This includes the introduction of a culinary competition on the lay day, set for January 26th.
Republic Bank further pledged its commitment to working with stakeholders of the tournament, to ensure the event continues to be sustainable, through best practices, and that it remains the preferred, premier sports fishing tournament in the southern Caribbean region.
