St George’s, Grenada; April 14, 2021: A record 805 participants got the opportunity to learn basic swimming techniques during the Republic Bank National Learn to Swim Week (NLTSW), which ended Saturday, April 10th.
The programme continues to grow each year, with steady interest from the general public. NLTSW is part of a wider programme, “Get Grenada Swimming”. Coordinator, Ms. Deb Eastwood of Grenada Youth Adventurers was elated by milestones accomplished this year, including reaching the goal of teaching 8,000 persons to swim in 5 years. This year also saw the addition of 4 new sites to the programme - Cabier Beach, BBC Beach, The Water Club (Telescope) and Windward Beach (Carriacou). Participation was greatest at the Birchgrove River: 99 persons and Grand Anse (Coconut Beach): 90 persons.
Republic Bank is pleased with the programme’s success after 7 years of steady financial support. General Manager – Operations at Republic Bank, Mr. Clifford Bailey commented: “The Bank is extremely heartened by the public’s response to the initiative – especially the high level of participation from children, who are the main target of the programme.”
