St. George's, Grenada. August 27, 2012 - St. Mark's Secondary School, located in Waltham, St. Mark is the latest to benefit under Republic Bank's Power to Make a Difference Program. The Bank has responded positively to the School's request to assist with refurbishment of the Home Economics laboratory, which requires new windows in some areas, replacement of the cabinetry and rehabilitation of sections of the roof to include new galvanized sheeting and ceiling ply.
Republic Bank's contribution to this worthwhile cause is $20,000.00, with the School pledging an additional $6,000.00. On making the presentation to the School's Principal, Ms. Irva Alexander, Public Relations Officer, Rachael Jones reiterated the Bank's commitment to empowering the youth, through education: "It is the Bank's hope that this enhancement to the learning environment, would help empower the students who would use the facility, to maximize their potential in this, and other disciplines."
Home Economics is one of several technical areas on the School's curriculum, designed to meet the diverse needs and abilities of students, both academically and vocationally. Work is expected to be completed in time for the new school term in September, and according to Principal Alexander: "The upgraded facility will, on completion, provide a more conducive environment for the teachers and students. We are indeed grateful to Republic Bank for honoring our request, considering the tough economic times, scarce resources and other constraints."
Republic Bank's donation to the St. Mark's Secondary School comes only weeks after a similar pledge to the Victoria School for Special Education.
