St. George’s, Grenada; September 28, 2023: Twenty-Five students are benefitting from the Republic Bank Scholarship and Bursary Programme for the academic year 2023-24. The programme is in collaboration with the University of West Indies.
Ms. Terisha Gilbert is the current recipient of the Scholarship award. She receives an annual grant of $20,000.00 for up to three years, to assist with tuition, books and living expenses while at the UWI – Cave Hill campus. Terisha, who is from Samaritan, St. Patrick, is a year II student, enrolled in the Faculty of Science where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics.
Another Twenty-Four Grenadian nationals are benefitting through the Bursary Programme, at a cost of $39,548.88 (THIRTY-NINE THOUSAND, FIVE HUNDRED & FORTY-EIGHT DOLLARS AND EIGHTY-EIGHT CENTS). This amount represents a total of 38 bursaries awarded to assist students with their tuition for courses being pursued through the UWI - Global Campus.
Ms. Peaches Ann George, Management Associate at Republic Bank, on addressing some of the recipients in a short presentation ceremony at the UWI Global Campus, at Marryshow House, St. George’s, applauded the students on their initiative to pursue higher learning. She further encouraged them to give of their best, noting the challenges associated with balancing school and work life.
For many, a Republic Bursary supports their desire to remain at home and study, while working. One recipient, Chrisan Mitchell, expressed: “I wish to thank Republic Bank for supporting students’ dreams, by helping to cushion the rising costs of tuition fees.”
The Scholarship and Bursary Programme is made possible through the Bank’s social investment vehicle, the Power to Make a Difference. The scholarship dates back more than two decades, while the Bursary was instituted in 2007 following a noticeable decline in scholarship applications.
Qualifying criteria for either of the programmes can be obtained from the Bank’s website, www.republicgrenada.com; or, by contacting the UWI – Global Campus Centre, located at Marryshow House, H. A. Blaize Street, St. George’s.
Republic Bank remains committed to building successful societies, through education, and wishes the students continued success.
