St. George’s, Grenada; November 05, 2020: Republic Bank is pleased to partner with Hands Across the Sea, a United States based community group to help 70 Pre-Schools in Grenada improve their literacy programme, by equipping their libraries with books/teaching supplies.
The programme is managed locally by retired educators, Gloria Bonaparte and Bernadette John with assistance from Co-founder Harriet Linskey and Executive Director, Amanda Sherlip. This partnership affords the Bank yet another opportunity to assist the vulnerable in our communities, our children.
When children develop good reading habits from an early age, it increases the child's attention span and helps him/her to focus better and for longer periods of time. Reading in one’s early years supports academic success and imparts a lifelong love for learning.
During the ceremonial presentation of the books to teachers and librarians of the 21 Pre-Schools in St. George, Ms. Asher James, Manager – Halifax Street Branch, commented: “Grenada is fortunate to be one of six OECS territories benefitting from Hands Across the Sea, and it is our hope that these books/teaching supplies will be fully utilized to ensure that ‘no infant is left out’”.
Republic Bank remains committed to building successful societies, through education. We are extremely pleased to support this programme as we contribute towards literacy and educational development in our country.
We wish all our preschoolers a great experience as they make use of these resources to grow, learn and develop a love for reading.
