St. George's, Grenada - February 23, 2012. Republic Bank continues to provide support for the youth, through education. For the fifth consecutive year, the Bank has provided Grenadian nationals with opportunities to advance and develop educationally through its Bursary Programme with the University of the West Indies, Open Campus-Grenada. This programme allows persons to remain at home while pursuing a bachelor's degree online.
Denisha Mark-Daniel, Ananira Herry, Hansel Francis, Delia Richardson and Sheena Lewis recently received tuition bursaries from the Bank totaling $19,440.00 for the 2011/2012 academic year.
On making the presentation, Managing Director, Keith A. Johnson, congratulated the students on their progress so far and encouraged them to continue in their academic advancement. He also announced an increase in Bursaries allocation for students wishing to pursue higher learning through the UWI Open Campus programme:
"Effective August 2012, funds allocated under the Republic Bank Bursary Programme, will be doubled to $40,000.00 (Forty Thousand Dollars), affording more Grenadians the opportunity to pursue higher learning, while remaining at home. Previously an average of five persons benefited annually, from now on we expect ten persons to benefit".
The Bursary programme complements the Bank's UWI Scholarship, which is made available each year, to assist one (1) qualified Grenadian pursuing a Bachelor's Degree full time at any of the UWI campuses in the region. In January 2012, the Bank awarded Caryl Hayes with the 2011/2012 Scholarship. Ms. Hayes is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Banking and Finance, at the UWI - Cave Hill, Campus, Barbados.
Republic Bank is pleased to continue supporting the development of young people through education. Eligibility for both Scholarship and Bursary is based on academic ability and financial need.
