Grand Anse, St. George, April 29, 2019: National Learn-to-Swim Week was held in thirteen (13) locations across Grenada from April 23- 27, 2019 with 614 participants, children and adults alike.
After five (5) successive years, and continuous support from Republic Bank, some 3,400 participants have benefitted from the “National Learn-to-Swim week” programme; which is part of a bigger goal to teach 8000 people to swim by 2021.
Speaking at the closing ceremony at the Youth Development Centre last Saturday, Mrs. Elizabeth Daniel, Manager Finance of Republic Bank hailed the initiative as “a resounding success”!
Organized by the Grenada Youth Adventurers, the programme is assisted by volunteer coaches from Grenada and overseas. This year we are pleased to have had the usual team from the US, and very interestingly, two volunteers from New Zealand and Norway respectively, who visited the island specifically to donate their services to this initiative! This is absolutely fantastic! Our National Learn-to-Swim Week has become a tourist attraction; bringing visitors from far away to our shores, literally!
Living on a small island like we are, the importance of learning even the basic swimming skills, can make a significant difference in the lives of our people. This is why Republic Bank applauds the efforts of the “Grenada Youth Adventures” to teach as many persons as possible the skill of swimming; and raising awareness of the need to learn to swim.
