St. George’s, Grenada; Monday, February 13, 2017: For the third consecutive year, Republic Bank has partnered with the Grenada Youth Adventurers to put on a national Learn to Swim Week, from April 18-22, 2017, the aim of which is to help raise awareness to water safety.
Assisted by local and international professional volunteers, the programme provides free basic water survival techniques to children and adults, even.
Delivering remarks on behalf of Republic Bank, Mrs. Elizabeth Richards-Daniel, Manager – Finance, said the Bank’s contribution of $10,000.00 will assist with stipends for the lifeguards, the purchase of equipment and t-shirts.
In the past two (2) years, over 1100 persons benefitted from the programme and according to Ms. Deb Eastwood, Coordinator of the programme, the aim is to teach approximately 6,000 young people how to swim, citing over 90% of our population does not swim. Given the island’s close proximity to water, we hope that many persons would seize this opportunity to learn basic survival skills.
Also attending the Launch was Grenada Olympic Association General Secretary, Mrs. Veda Bruno-Victor, who applauded the organizers for their insight and commitment and pledged the Association’s support to the event, with the hope that even more Grenadians would qualify in this sport at the Olympic level, in the near future.
